Rottenburg municipal library

competition, 2nd stage

Rottenburg am Neckar / Germany

2014

The scale of the new library continues the medieval development structure that is made up of small parts. The specific spatial and sculptural form of the library is arrived at by overlaying the development structure with the concrete configuration of the site. Externally, a striking appearance is achieved that nevertheless harmonizes with the existing proportions. The dimensions of the openings are based on the existing facades and calmly integrate the new building in the overall ensemble of Königstraße. The internal functional layout is a logical consequence of the small units that make up the building structure. Precisely placed areas of glazing ensure atmospheric qualities of light in the reading areas.
